New Model Army came to Bremen (Aladin) and I went to see them.
They came to introduce their new album on the 'Today is a Good Day' tour. What can I say: it was fun.The atmosphere was boiling and they had fun playing!
I hardly ever missed a concert, but during the last ones you always had the feeling that they did not like what they are doing very much any more. The albums before lacked the old spirit, the music and the lyrics seemed either experimental or kind of resigned, both I did not like very much.
I kind of understand that you become sick of playing the same songs over and over again for centuries, but now they seemed to have come to an understanding about their identity. The concert (more than two hours) was a perfect mixture between old stuff and the new album. And by listening to the songs again, you became aware that they are still as actual as they have been 15 or 20 years ago.
After they came back on stage for the second round of bonus songs, Justins voice just would not do any more, otherwise they might have gone on all night.
A nice new album and one of their best concerts! Maybe all they needed was a world-crisis to give them back their fire.
Thanks for this concert, I enjoyed it very much! |

Most of the new CDs you have to listen to a few times before you can say for sure if you like it, if you really like it, or if it is a blockbuster. Not with the new Arctic Monkeys album Humbug. It is really great and I loved it from the very first hearing!
It is hard to tell the style, the songs (its 10 of them) are something from alternative to indie and post punk. Sometimes you get a kind of déjà-vu, but before you can grip it, they are already somwhere completely different.
They are from Sheffield, GB and have this very cute accent that I can't get enough of. The first two songs My Propeller and Crying Lightning are great, they sound a little bit futuristic and grim, or like the soundtrack to a vampire film (a real one, not one of the "Bite"-ones).
In Dangerous Animals they start to alphabetise and you realise, they are probably young enough to be proud to know how to do this
My favourite one is Cornerstone, a really funny song, but somehow sad as well. And I think that counts for the whole album: it is not easy to categorise, but it is very worth buying and you should listen to it very, very LOUD and very, very often!!!

Anne Clark came to Hamburg again and I went there to see her. The Fabrik is a just too nice location to miss her concert.

It was nice, as usual. Her concerts are full of atmosphere and the band enjoys playing, you can clearly see this. They started punctually at 9 pm. Usually Rainer von Vielen does the support act beforehand, but not this time. Probably because it was in the middle of the week, but he had a nice part in the middle of the concert, one by himself and one together with Murat Parlak. I have to admit, Murak Parlak is one of the reasons I enjoy going to the concerts so much. If you ever watched him playing the piano, you can swear that his hands move faster than light. I know, I know, nothing is supposed to be faster than light, but still...
Jeff Aug was on the guitar, very professional and very fast as well. Jann Michael Engel looked like an angel on his cello, all in his own world, I am not even sure that he recognized that we all were there. ;-) He also had a solo with Murak, one that made you want to cry, so sad.
They played close to two hours, the tune was good, the atmosphere was very good (as always at the Fabrik) and after the concert there was time for a little chat with the band. Looking forward to next year!

The Killers came to Hamburg to play in the Color Line Arena and I went to see them! And it was great!
We've been there with 8500 other people and the atmosphere was good. The support band was Polarkreis 18, which was a little bit of a mistake. Their kind of music is just too different from the stuff that people hear when they come to listen to The Killers. They played for about half an hour, then there was another break and finally the concert started.
Guys what a spectacle. The Killers are from Las Vegas and they brought a little bit from there to Hamburg. The show was just breathtaking and would have been worth the money by itself. It was so hot that the fire alarms at the stage went on after the show .
Brandon Flowers did not stand still for a moment and he is just sexy enough to be eaten! They played for about 1 1/2 hours and I think it was the very first concert where I knew every single song. They started with 'Human' and that got everybody off their seats straight away. It was a fast pace through all three albums and the very only thing that I can complain about was that the music was too loud. It predominated Brandons vocals quite often.
If they come back next year, I am going to be there!
